What is a good gift to give some friends when you will be staying with them for a few days?
They have stayed with us several times and always brought a small gift for us.
Please – I need some inexpensive (but nice) ideas.
We want to express our appreciation without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
ShawniquaI have been on vacation visiting back home for 3.5 weeks, I’ve stayed with 2 of my sisters as well as my best friend.
Instead of gifting them something I cleaned their homes while I was there as a thank you.
They all work full time jobs, or multiple jobs, raising kids etc etc so they are busy individuals and I would have hours alone in the house so I would tidy up anything that needed done in the main rooms of the home.
Did the dishes and washed down counters, sweep, vacuum & mop.
Anything that I knew they would have to do after getting off work I would ensure was done.
It’s free and helpful!
Edit: cooking dinner as well! That’s another cheap gift to them and a home cooked meal can’t be beat!DawnBottle of good olive oil or balsamic wrapped in kitchen towel!
DonnaSomething similar to what they gave you. People usually give gifts they would like to receive themselves.
SusanFood!! Bake something, can something, offer to cook a meal or take them out to eat
GemmaIf they have children offered to watch the kids for four hours and give them the gift certificate for dinner out
NinaI have a friend that brings a “happy” boutique of flowers every time she visits someone’s home.
It’s such a thoughtful giftElizabethI would love a pretty serving bowl (I never seem to have enough), perhaps with a food gift or a special mix kit (porcelain bowl, not fine china — i am resisting one Target has for about $20) .
I also appreciate new kitchen toys — some silicone tools in a bright color, maybe with a pretty kitchen towel.
I never have enough bookends —
if they’re book people.
I’d avoid anything that looks as though you’re trying to pay for their hospitality, but if the visit is more than a day or two definitely take them out for a restaurant meal — dinner or even brunch if that suits their lifestyle.
If you’re short on time, chocolates are traditional, welcome, easy to buy and often gift-wrapped.
Have fun, remember “their house, their rules!”
ToniGive something they can share snacks like peanuts, chocolates.
When something leaves my hand it’s theirs to do with it what they want.
It’s no longer mine, it’s theirs.
KatReusable bags (the cloth ones) with designs or logos that are specific to that area is a gif I love to give and receive.
That way as we go exploring they (or I) can put stuff in the bag.
KimI would gift them a few hand towels. I hate when I stay with friends and they don’t put out a towel to dry off when I wash up.
Ps- this has happened to me more than once!
PatriciaI either put a lot of effort into picking something personal I think they’d like or give something nice but generic that they can either use or regift
JoyceI always get a nice greeting card and include a gift card to a store in their town.
Many times they have a Target.
AmiI like flowers. Potted plants work too but decide which would fit best with their lives.
Or add a restaurant gift card.
AnnetteI bring a handmade pottery dish with gourmet nuts. They usually serve the nuts while I am there, but I love they still have the unique dish.
I pick them up at art fairs during the year.
KateA planter box with herbs & salad. If you can make the box yourself & grow the plants from seed even better but even buying the box & buying seedlings will be cheap but show you appreciate your friends
