I’m looking for recommendations on affordable yet high-quality shampoos. My main priorities are finding a shampoo that is gentle on the hair, effective at cleaning, and doesn’t leave my hair feeling too dry or oily.

I would also appreciate suggestions for shampoos that cater to different hair types (e.g., oily, dry, curly, or damaged) and are easy to find in local stores or online.

Price is a key factor, so I’m hoping to find options that give good value for the money.

Are there any shampoos you’ve tried that offer a good balance between price and performance?

I’d love to hear your suggestions and any specific brands or products you’ve had positive experiences with!

      Thank you in advance!

Your age, your hair texture and your hair color make a difference in all of this.

Shampoo bars, I like “love beauty and planet” or the trader Joe’s shampoo bar. They last a long time.

I put mine in a mesh bag and hang it to dry between shampooing

I barely wash my hair, but Kirkland brand is fairly cheap and better than Pantene.

I no longer use shampoo. I found it stripped my hair of natural oils and caused my scalp to produce even more oil.

Instead, I simply massaged conditioner through my hair and scalp, then rinsed as usual

Always be scanning for expensive shampoo marked down, then stock up. I always have good shampoo on hand that way.

If you need shampoo right away, Mane n Tail is good, you get a huge bottle for around $7.

None. I went poo less years ago. Rinse my hair with diluted vinegar. Sometimes use a mild baking soda wash if it feels greasy or has buildup.

Occasionally use a rosemary tea infusion for greys.

CASTILE, all natural ingredients, use as body wash too!! Used this for years, in liquid or bars…

                      Many toxins in others

A good quality shampoo is worth it. You can wash way less often and use less. I get biolage from Ulta when it’s on sale.

With 4 of us using the bottle, the big bottle will last us 2-3 months and it was $15-20.

Buy good shampoo and it will last longer than multiple bottles of cheaper shampoo.

If you have TJ Maxx and Marshall’s nearby, they have high end shampoos at discount prices.

I get a luxury shampoo at Dollar Tree for $2.50. A little goes a long way and makes your hair feel great.

Get the soap out with white vinegar.

Don’t. It’s your hair forever. In fact, I would support you being extravagant on this purchase.

Baking soda. Rub a handful in wet hair and rinse. It works great and so very cheap.

I make my own soap. It cleans the scalp very well that I can last at least 2 days during summer without feeling greasy at all

I use VO5 or Equate brand from Walmart. I only shampoo my hair every 3rd day. I get many compliments on how soft and shiny my hair is.

I use a bar made locally. $6 lasts a year. No plastic, packaging and supported a local business.

My best friend is a hairstylist at a high end salon (for many years). I asked her what was the best cheapest shampoo and conditioner I could buy, and she told me to use Dove.

                                          Next would be Biolage.

Buy the best shampoo you can afford and go as long as you can between shampoos.

Also use a small amount for various reasons.

Baking soda mix for “shampoo” and diluted apple cider vinegar for “conditioner”.

We’ve been using Trader Joe’s shampoo for several years. It’s $4 a bottle and is sodium laurel sulfate free.

I don’t skimp on shampoo. BUT, I only have to buy 1 bottle every 10-12 months… I wash my hair 2-3-ish times a week. I noticed that it got LESS greasy when I shampoo less.

Sometimes I only rinse and it actually is ok, really.

I don’t have any scalp issues anymore either with shampooing less.

I plan my shampooing in case I want to “do my hair” for an event.

My haircut is about $65 twice a year and it is cut so well that I don’t have to do anything to it.

                                                  That’s ME. Everyone is different.

My mom had kinky curly hair. The only shampoo she could use that wouldn’t tangle her hair into a mess was Prell.

                                                    I still use it.

I just bought the Ginger and Lily farms from Amazon that someone here recommended. It is whole gallon, so I took a huge chance buying the shampoo and conditioner.

I have used a couple of times and I love it! It’s like $22 a gallon.

I expect it to last me a year.
