So I’m in a new living situation and trying to be more frugal. I bought a refillable keurig cup but my keurig rejected it.
2nd attempt: I bought some popcorn and a microwave popper and cheese topping. Popcorn turned out fine but cheese topping did not stick to the popcorn.
What is the most frugal way to flavor the popcorn?
SallySpray a little Pam or cooking spray on your popcorn and then add your topping and then shake your popcorn and then spray it again and add your toppings.
I use the olive oil Pam. Do you like yellow or white kernels?
I definitely like the yellow better
LindaI got out my old mr coffee and make myself a pot of coffee.
Much less costLyonMy doctor recommended nutritional yeast(taste like cheese and I use about 1 teaspoon). I also shake some adobo on the popcorn to give it taste.
You can also make your own nutritional yeast by toasting dead yeast.
I buy bulk active yeast by the lbs because they cheaper than store packet yeast but after six months the yeast stop working.
I toast the non active yeast in my wok or pan, after they cool down, I store them in the freezer.
VickiI put popping corn into a brown lunch bag . Roll the top. Place in microwave until it stops popping.
Remove, pour into bowl and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese or melted butter or a flavored popcorn seasoning.
MaryGood for you moving away from the keurig type coffee Old school coffee is frugal & tastes great – brewed of French press … & popcorn girl get corn kernels & pop in the stove you salt, butter, parm whatever it’s soooo cheap
BarbaraI spray it with Cant believe it’s not butter than sprinkle the flavor.
NancyMy daughters love these for popcorn. I have found several at thrift stores. So inexpensive to make in these.
Just a bag of popcorn and oil and anything will stick.
EllenAgree with comment on making coffee with a French press (search under brand name Bodum.) Uses less coffee grounds, has no throw-away cups to buy. Just heat water and pour. So delicious.
I’d recommend a glass carafe and not the plastic.
I bought a plastic version for traveling and the coffee tasted awful.
The product lasts for many years as long as you don’t drop it or accidentally put it on a hot burner.
JaniceTry using a cooking spray (like PAM or spray olive oil) before sprinkling on the topping.
GloriaI spray our popcorn after we pop it with a little tiny bit a butter flavored cooking spray then shake the popcorn salt on it otherwise it just goes to the bottom of the dish
NeshaIf you want flavoring to stick to the popcorn you’ll need to pop it on the stove with a little oil.
DianaUse real popcorn, make on stove, when done add 1/2 stick real butter and salt. Some use seasoning salt and if you want powered cheese.
The butter makes everything stick.
It’s so much cheaper. Big bag of Jolly Time white ( tenderest) is less than $3 butter is worth the money because you’re gonna use it for other things.
I had a friend who also ate Reese’s pieces with it.
MaryThe ALDI stores sell flavored popcorn salts. Check Amazon too.
I have a friend who just sprinkles her favorite seasoning blends.PatriciaSplash a little water flicked on with your fingers and topping will stick. Just a little.
KendallHealthy popcorn option … try spraying popcorn with Chosen brand avocado oil and sprinkling with nutritional yeast.
BarbaraI never had luck with the refillable k cup pods I’m sure they design the machine in a certain way to make sure we’re buying theirs
MicheleOk let machine start up and lift lid to reset . If pod fits it will work just takes a minute.
Add butter or margarine then sprinkle with cheese flavour you have
NancyBuy a few kurig cups, take the labels from the tops and attach to refillable cups.
Some kurig machine only recognize their own labels.
AllisonLove my micro popcorn popper! I use melted butter and add the seasoning and drizzle it on. You could use olive oil also. You could also spray with cooking oil and then add.
A little goes a long way. Just drizzle and toss to get it on all of it.
I also have seen people use a regular bowl, add water and seasoning and the popcorn.
Cover with a plate and pop it that way.
It might help the flavoring stick. We just like butter!
CherylYou can sprinkle Kraft Parmesan in the green can. Or pop on stove with a 1/4 cup sugar & make your own kettle corn.
