I’d love some advice on budget-friendly ways to clean a 7×10 area rug in my living room. What techniques, products, or DIY methods would you recommend to get it looking fresh without spending a lot?

I’m open to trying homemade solutions, store-bought products, or even simple tools that work effectively.

Any suggestions for keeping costs low while still getting good results would be appreciated!

Asking according to the comments. Will a carpet shampooer not work?

My husband placed ours on the driveway and used a carpet shampooer on it. It dried in a couple of hours.

I use a rug cleaning service. Once or twice a year is worth it!

These rugs can be incredibly heavy when wet. Be prepared for that. We washed one of ours in the bathtub/shower, and it was a nightmare due to the weight.

washing out doors with a power washer works well but drying it over a fence or line of some sort can cause semi permanent creasing at the fold.

You have to move it around a fair amount.

I use my carpet cleaner & an organic enzymatic cleaner on an 8’x10’ wool area rug. I also use it on poly area rugs placed on carpeting in the bedrooms.

I usually open windows, turn on the ceiling fans & sometimes use box fans, but there really isn’t much wetness after going over a few times extracting liquid with the carpet cleaner.

Best if you have a clothes line. I take mine out & hose down, scrub brush with Dawn, rinse good & line dry. Once it gets mostly dry I lay flat so it doesn’t kink.
