Need to shred tons of old tax returns.Any idea where to take them to be shredded that may be free? I only know of UPS stores

Question: “I’m looking for suggestions on where I can shred old tax returns for free, apart from using UPS stores.

Are there any other locations or community events that offer this service without charge?

I’d appreciate it if anyone can share specific places or tips on how they manage shredding sensitive documents securely and cost-effectively.

      Thank you!”

I can’t burn in my area.
          Shredder took too long.
          5 gallon bucket of water.

          Soak and stir.

          They turn to mush.

When we had whole boxes of stuff to shred, it was cheaper to buy a shredder.

Sometimes churches, banks or community recreation centers do free shredding events (up to 2 bankers boxes).

I’d look into that or ask friends if their work might have a shredding service!

I bought a shredder at a garage sale. I’m not going to trust my info to anybody else.

Buy a shredder and do it yourself. You should be shredding all your mail too.

Ask your town’s Village Hall. Ours does shredding and recycling events 3-4x a year.

I had my shredding to do plus my mothers old papers. I bought a shredder and just set my mind to do it.

Then the shredder stopped working. So I bought another one the same. I was too cheap to throw it away so I looked at the directions in the new one.

Duh – when shredding quite a bit it said to oil the blades with vegetable oil.

I did and it started working again!

Do you have a fire place, or fire pit. They make excellent fire starter

In our area shredding companies post free shred events on their website. My employer (a real estate company) hosts a free event annually that is made public.

If you’re a member of your community fb page, you should pose the question there.

Many businesses host these events in the spring.

Do you have a UPS “store.” Ours has everything you’d find in a big office including commercial shredding service.

Towns and townships usually sponsor free shredding events on a regular basis. Check them out.

If you can’t burn, throw in with wet garbage or even throw in a sink of water b4 putting in the garbage bag…wet paper will disintegrate

I’d ask locally. Several organizations run free shredding events. Here, the farmers market does one, states attorney, library, state representative.

There end up being several in the spring and summer months and one each season or so in fall and winter.

We have banks in the area that offer free shred days a few times a year. We did buy a personal shredder though so we didn’t have to wait for the free days.

Buy a heavy duty shredder, some earplugs and pay your kids to do it. When my grandmother moved, we have two going at the same time…

Check your bank, they sometimes will accept old bank and financial docs to shred

We wanted to do a free shredding event at our library but the cost of the shredding truck was exorbitant.

I hope you find something near you.
