I’m planning to invest with the goal of achieving financial independence (FI) over the next 20 years.

I have three options to consider: VTI (Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF), MGK (Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF), and VGT (Vanguard Information Technology ETF).

Given this long-term investment horizon, which of these options would you recommend for the best potential growth and risk balance?

Please provide your thoughts on the pros and cons of each ETF in the context of a 20-year investment plan aimed at financial independence.

Your insights on historical performance, sector-specific growth potential, and any other relevant factors would be greatly appreciated.
      Thank you!

VGT. Look at the track record of VGT and VTI. Why invest in the “underperformers” of the stock market?

VGT has a proven track record as does MGK.

nvest in the top and reap the rewards! It’s been working for my wife and I for years and we are pretty happy with things

Why are your choices a US total market (VTI), mega cap fund (MGK) and an IT sector fund (VGT)?

I personally stick to total us and international funds for stocks.

Total US being market cap weighted already tilts your exposure to mega caps.

50 percent VOO and the remaining 50 percent growth split between those two of you like or whatever portion fees right.

All are great funds and you cannot go wrong with any of them imo.

              50/50 VTI and VIOV

The small cap value provides diversity to VTI which is primarily a large cap growth fund.

The diversity should improve performance overall

VTI has worked fine for us. It’s taken much less than 20 years of investing to hit our target numbers.

I use mgk and vti in one of my accounts and I have been impressed with mgk.

I’m always surprised it isn’t mentioned often.
