My freezer is icing over. I called LG and they want $400 to come see what’s wrong with it and fix it because we have a limited extended warranty.

Are there any reasons this can be happening that I can fix myself or any other option than spending this amount of money.

I’d hate to spend that and it’s a simple fix.

      Thanks in advance.

What that’s almost the price of a new fridge
        I would youtube it

But fyi when it happened to me it was because I had stuff pushed up against the back of the freezer.

Apparently you’re not supposed to do that because it blocks the vents & makes them ice up.

But the fix required taking the back panel off, melting some ice, and replacing some parts that busted when they got ice in them

Mine did that and I googled and found out that the defrost timer was bad.

I ordered a new one and installed it myself.

This was about 10 years ago and the part was $16.

It is still being used today.

Check for any blockages in the drains. Then check YouTube. You can at least get an idea what you’re paying $400 for.

Try to google it, my son-in-law just fixed their dishwasher and they were going to charge $60 just to come out and look at it.

He did his due diligence and fixed it with a small part that he picked up at the local local hardware store.

We just had this, it was a clogged drain. The repairman had to take off the back panel of the freezer to access it.

                  Good luck.

Try cleaning the back and make sure you don’t have any clogged drain underneath where the drain pan is.

We have an LG and have had to fix our ice maker 3 times and replace the whole back of fridge.

Thank God it’s under warranty from place we bought it.

                      They get alot of complaints

All I know is make sure there’s good air flow. So make sure air can travel shelf to shelf by not stacking items against the walls.

I will never buy an LG again. The tech says the brand has so many issues.

When mine was icing over I had to open and slam the freezer door 3x’s. Is how customer service told me to reset it.

                            It worked.

Now everything I see little ice crystals starting I do the open close thing and it clears up.

I had this same problem. YouTubed it, unclogged the drain(hot water) and stopped jamming it full of food.

                              Problem solved, no repair bill.

I have a Samsung that does that in the fridge part every 3 ish months. I unplug it, and take a blowdrier too it.

And it’s good for another couple months.

Ours did that once and and all under the sun that was wrong with it is somebody had pushed something against the thermostat on the inside on it and turned it up too high

Unplug it for several hours & then plug it back in. The fan may be iced and can’t move the blades.

Make sure the vents aren’t blocked with food.

                                    The air needs to circulate.

After $2K in repairs (covered by warranty) on our fridge/freezer issues, we got the best advice from one of the service men!

He told us to buy a small steam machine from Amazon and steam the frozen motor, then clean and dry the whole thing with towels!

As long as we do this every time it freezes up, it continues to work great!

Sadly, they just don’t make these products the same way they used to!
We have a 9 year old fridge that we have to defrost every 4-6 months, and we’ve been doing that for 7 years now!

We paid $2400 for the fridge originally, and it’s had over $2K in repairs!

Easiest fix is if the freezer aspect of the fridge is filled too much block vents.

                                        Air has to circulate.

So, get to defrosting and start eating some stuff so air can circulate.

The cold air circulates clockwise. Top freezer to fridge.

I changed out for my friend two parts that cost less than 50.

                                        YouTube this fix.

It may even show you the exact model and how to trouble shoot to change out the parts.

Call around your area there are appliance repair shops that are normally much cheaper than dealing with the company themselves normally less of a headache.

                                          Well from my experience anyway.

Is it a self defrosting freezer? If not you just have to defrost it possibly? Or you may have to much in it?

Just try using stuff up before buying more and see if that fixes the problem?

My LG just acted up too. I had to unplug it and leave the doors open for 8 hours to defrost the motors.

                                                That worked for my problem.

I’ve been told that LG fridges are nothing but trouble! Are you getting error codes?

Just paid that much to replace the rails for the same reason. Took the guy literally ten minutes total.

Apparently the rails were still under warranty just not the work.

$2400/hr is ridiiculous and that was the cost just to come out and look at it.

At least we got the rails for “free’?!?

As for your issue check the seals?

Make sure the freezer is getting fully shut?

Make sure you have the temp on the coldest it can go so it isn’t defrosting to above freezing when you are opening it to our in new food?…
